The fiery muddy Gulfe of Mexico! (To break from Florence…)
My dad’s created quite the ritual of taking my littlest brother fishing every weekend, and after months of hearing fish tales, I decided I should beat down my fish-o-phobia and accompany the pair. (Just looked it up… it’s ichthyophobia.) It’s about a ninety minute drive down to their location of choice — a small, clean pier somewhere on Matagorda Bay.

I shall call him Squishy and he shall be mine and he shall be my Squishy.
They both know I hate fish, so they promptly scooped some (non-stinging) jellyfish out of the water to keep me occupied. (I think these are called “cannonball jellyfish”. This one was about four inches in diameter.) They bounce around pretty comically.

Officially back in the States!
I just went through iPhoto today and picked out some photos. I think they’ve ended up being from art history field trips and a couple from the Bologna art fair.

I think this was our first day in “art history” when we took a bus up to San Miniato al Monte. Good old rainy, cloudy Florence.
I can’t look at the dome without thinking of the ridiculous PBS video we saw in the Florence seminar in the fall. It shows an actor playing Brunelleschi in all his egg-cracking glory. Go to around 10:30; egg-cracking commences at 16:50. Watch it and lol. (By the way, when I run the search for ‘PBS Medici’ on youTube, the first thing that comes up at ‘p’ is ‘poker face’.)
